Lethe

Lethe

Lethe have made two tracks available for streaming from their upcoming album, When Dreams become Nightmares, released January 17th. Mentioned in their own description are three of my favourite artists: The Gathering, Ulver, and the 3rd and the mortal, so naturally I was intrigued. Embracing the trip-hop/rock eras of all of these bands, they combine these influences, and I also hear something of Lamb and Portishead in there too, to create their own unique brand of down-tempo trip-hop. With a slight doom-metal edge to it, similar to Katatonia’s Viva Emptiness to my ears, fantastic vocals which reminded me somewhat of Anneke Van Giersbergen (a compliment if ever there was one) and a dark atmosphere, these two tracks sound very promising and the album should be an interesting listen, I’m certainly anticipating the release. It’s close in sound to a combination of The Gathering’s Disclosure and Ulver’s Perdition city, while a little reminiscent of the early metal days of both of those bands.
